Milestone Check-Up Day Today

Today was my 29+3 week check-up, so 30 weeks (I’m a few days early – 74 days to go!). Some things I learned today:

  • The baby is laying horizontal/transverse still; it is her head-butting me on my right side (although she does have her arm/hand above her head currently, so she could be punching as well).
  • I’m a tad bit anemic. Not enough for a supplement (on top of the prenatals) but I should eat some spinach and other iron rich foods (except for mollusks, I just can’t go there).
  • I passed my glucose test (which I had a hunch about since they never called to schedule a 3-hour one).

My next appointment is in two weeks. Yep, I’ve hit that point now. Still feels surreal that I’m this close.

We’ve got busy, busy days coming up. We’ve got the nursery painted, so this Friday we’ll get the crib and dresser up. Then I can move the baby stuff out of my office and into her room. We’ve finally—well, 98%—decided on a name (which will remain a secret, sorry) so I feel like we’re moving along in that aspect.

I finally received the watermelon hat I had ordered in February. Thank goodness I ordered it in February. ;) I think it’s pretty darn cute! (Now to have a baby to put it on!)

The kiddo went to the eye doctors two weeks ago. You can read about that here. We’ve got the glasses and we’re good to go. He was amazed at how well he could see with them on, so although I was happy, I was still sad that he never said anything. (I looked through them and they are a teeny bit stronger than my computer glasses, so his eyesight isn’t terrible. It’s not fantastic, but not horrendous.)

All of our allergies are acting up, which is no fun. The husband has been sneezing for 3 days straight. :/ He’s taking Zyrtec. The kiddo woke up with clogged ears this am. Gave him his Zyrtec. I peeked outside and sure enough, the neighbors’ trees are in full bloom. Fun times. My “medications ok while pregnant” sheet from the OBGYN states Benadryl. Ugh. I took Benadryl on Saturday and ended up losing four hours—it knocked me out that hard. So when the OBGYN asked me this morning how I’m feeling, I told her—yucky. My eyes are dry then watery, dry then watery. My nose is runny then dry, runny then dry. I feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde. :/ So, she asked what I use to take and I said Zyrtec. She said she believes I can take that and will check before I leave. Sure enough, I can! Woo Hoo. I can’t wait to sleep well tonight.

Friday the husband is off so along with the dresser and moving stuff up into the nursery, he has to clear the dining room so the floor can be done on Saturday. I am so excited to finally get all the flooring done! I can’t wait.

After that is done, we move on to outside stuff, such as getting the old pool up and the new one installed. But in the meanwhile, we have numerous weekends booked. A communion party, our anniversary dinner (we’re heading to The Melting Pot!), Easter, Mother’s Day, and so on. Busy busy.

And that’s where we stand (for now).

One more trimester to go

Today marks the first day of the last week of my 2nd trimester. That’s it. We’re coming up on the big 3. Only 91 days left.

So now we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty. According to the Mayo Clinic:

Week 27: Second trimester ends

This week marks the end of the second trimester. At 27 weeks, or 25 weeks after conception, your baby’s lungs, liver and immune system are continuing to mature — and he or she has been growing like a weed. Your baby’s crown-to-rump length may have tripled since the 12-week mark.

Sounds like business as usual, doesn’t it? But man, I am feeling the growing that’s going on. My poor belly is stretching like crazy, I’ve got ligaments that are cramping up a storm and a baby who seems to think my uterus is her own personal diving board that she can do flips off of. When they tell you that no two pregnancies are alike, they are not kidding. At. All. (But, let’s hope that the delivery goes just as swiftly and easily, lol.)

The kiddo seems to be handling this all well, or I should say well enough. I think he is more concerned about me and what his baby sister is doing TO me rather than about the baby itself. That’s my boy. :)

We’ve still got plenty to do before the baby arrives, but at least we’re knocking things off the list here and there. The new pool was delivered so now we just have to get the electrician out so we can get the permits so the contractor will set up a date to install the darn thing. Yes, you need a permit to have a pool replaced, even if it’s the same exact size and there is no other work being done other than putting the pool up. Who knew?

While that’s being taken care of we can start moving on the nursery and the kiddo’s room and get the flooring finished. And have Easter. And our anniversary. And Mother’s Day. *phew*

16 weeks and counting

Today marks the 24 week mark, which means I’ve got 16 weeks left if the baby sticks to her due date. Knowing full well that they very seldom due {based not only on others’ experience but also my own with the kiddo arriving 2 weeks early!} I’m shooting for about 14 weeks left. So I’d like to get everything ready in 12 weeks. {Hmmm… I’m thinking of two little words… “Fat. Chance.”}

We are doing good with baby clothes. Grammy has bought a ton of adorable outfits for the baby. She has more clothes than the kiddo, the husband and I have combined.

I picked up some cute outfits the other day, 3 mos though, but I couldn’t resist and I really, really wanted them and they didn’t have new born left.

We’re still in the process of finishing the floors and getting the walls painted. Then we can move on to the nursery and start up with that stuff.

And just to be sure there is never a dull moment, the dog has what we suspect is a UTI. So she’s going to the vet today. Of course I had to do a “first ever” which was collect a urine sample. From a dog. Yeah, not as easy as one would think, but I guarantee it was easier collecting it from her since she’s a girl. Can’t even fathom how I would have attempted to collect from a male dog. ;)

Actually, that would have been pretty fun to digiscrap. Ah, speaking of which, I have sooo many beautiful kits and so little time to actually use them. :( I have this adorable kit from SuzyQ Scraps:

I absolutely adore it, but haven’t had the chance to actually sit down and use it. :/ Hopefully one of those days. {But definitely check out her stuff if you’re in the market for some digiscrap stuff, I love it!}

It feels like an alien

Life is tough enough without having someone kick you from the inside.   ~Rita Rudner

I’m now 18 weeks and 3 days into the pregnancy and this little bean is moving around more and more. I’m excited—and relieved—to feel s/he move around so much, but man, it’s always at the most inopportune times, like when I’m trying to fall asleep. It’s hard to explain the feeling if you’ve never felt it yourself, but it definitely feels like you’ve got an alien in your belly.

We’re half way done with the room switching. The kiddo’s room is now painted a really calming blue.

Now all that’s left is to buy a new bed and some decorations.

As for the new baby, we’re two weeks and four days away from {hopefully} finding out the sex. I’m getting very impatient and really want to start buying some things. I hate that I have to wait until 21 weeks. :/

I’m really looking forward to getting out of winter. It’s been such a crummy, cold, snowy winter and it makes me feel so blah. I can’t wait for that first day of warmer weather where everyone opens their windows and lets all the winter germs out.

New year, new baby, new pool

Wow, 2011 is starting off with a bang!

We have a new baby due in June (we knew this, of course, before January!) and are scrambling to get things done. We’re moving the kiddo into a new room (his play room will become his bedroom) and the baby will go into the kiddo’s old room. Luckily we had planned on painting the original bedroom and bought paint, so that will just be used in the play room.  Now it’s just the smaller items: a bed, new blinds and a bed light.

The baby’s room is still tough as we don’t know the gender yet. Four weeks until we find out. :/

Now along with all this “remodeling” we have to deal with the collapse of our beautiful 24′ round pool. :( We still don’t know what caused it, but the other night it just broke, collapsed and took out the 15′ tree next to it along with the filter, electrical outlets, our swing and who knows what else. Luckily it’s covered under homeowners insurance. Let’s just hope they push through the claim and give us enough to get a new one installed. Not something I want to be worried about with a newborn, but at the same time, the kiddo lives in the pool so it wouldn’t be fair to him to postpone installing/opening it.
